ATIC Public Meeting on Arizona High-technology Policy Activities

The ATIC Public Meeting held on Thursday, February 15 focused on all the high-technology policy activities underway in Arizona with a distinguished array of invited speakers moderated by Mike Keeling, Data Site Consortium and ATIC Chair . Our most popular program, now in its fifth year, was held from 2:00-4:00 PM as a free live event and teleconference from the offices of Lewis & Roca in downtown Phoenix with remote audio conferencing courtesy of Cox Business Services.

• Chris Cummiskey, Director of the Government Information Technology Agency (GITA) and State of Arizona CIO on the current status and outlook for the Governor's Council on Innovation and Technology (GCIT) Communications Infrastructure Advisory Committee (CIAC), the state's telecom outsourcing progress, broadband deployment initiatives, and progress on Arizona Health-e Connection
• Steve Zylstra, President & CEO, Arizona Technology Council on the current status and outlook for Arizona technology-related legislative initiatives this year, the Council's role in driving Arizona's high-tech environment, and what interested parties can do to assist
• Ron Schott, ATIC Strategy Committee Co-Chair & Arizona Technology Council Executive Emeritus on ATIC's telecom policy initiatives and regional outlook for broadband deployment and advanced applications
• Ted Kraver, eLearning System for Arizona's Students and Teachers (eSATS) on Arizona's e-learning initiatives and progress as well as current legislative activities that will drive e-learning deployment and K-12 educational success
• Mark Goldstein, International Research Center on national cyber and telecom legislative and regulatory issues including cyber liberties, net neutrality, and rural broadband support

ATIC & CCEC Announce Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) Debates
(July 15 & September 15, 2008)






















ATIC is pleased to announce that we will again produce a series of debates for the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) candidates with support from the Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission (CCEC) and other partner organizations. Primary Debates for the three open seats will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 for the Democratic candidates in the morning and Republican candidates in the afternoon. A General Election Debate will be held on Monday, September 15, 2008 for all Democratic, Independent, and Republican candidates on the ballot. The debates will cover all issues under the jurisdiction of the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) - Utilities Regulation, Corporations and Securities Oversight, and Railroad and Pipeline Safety. You may participate in the live audience at the Rio Salado College in Tempe and attend the Candidate receptions following the debates as well as access the Webcast in real-time and on-demand afterwards, view the debates on Cox Cable Channel 7 and other cable systems throughout the state, and discuss issues, propose debate questions and interact with other Arizona voters in our online discussion forum. ATIC Public Meeting - Recap of Arizona's Broadband Progress

The ATIC Public Meeting of June 19, 2008 featured a recap of Arizona's broadband progress, successful programs, and a look forward to future initiatives as we featured the stories and lessons from recent broadband efforts moderated by Ron Schott, ATIC Chair including:

• Roz Boxer of the Arizona Dept. of Commerce & Lisa Bergeron of Pinal County recounted the Superior story, the revitalization of a small mining community and upcoming plans for greater Pinal and Gila Counties.
• Derek White of the National Tribal Telecommunications Association (NTTA), comprised of tribally owned & operated telephone companies, on Native American telecom efforts around the state and the nation. His presentation is available here.
• LLadd Vagen, Director of Information Technology of the City of Flagstaff on their earlier broadband assessment and strategic process, recent broadband connections of over 20 city buildings, and plans for wireless broadband.
• David Heck, Deputy Chief Information Officer of the City of Tempe on their citywide Wi-Fi partnership, its problems, future potential, and lessons learned.
• Michael Stull of Cox Communications on their recent expansion of infrastructure and services to rural communities in Southern Arizona including Douglas & Bisbee
• Deborah Dupee of Advanced TechSystems (ATS) on broadband initiatives in other states, both best practices and lessons learned from around the nation. Her presentation is available here.
