Friday, November 19 - The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Phoenix Section, Components, Packaging & Manufacturing Technology Society Chapter & Waves & Devices Chapter present an all-day workshop on Emerging Device & Packaging Technologies: Sense, Compute & Communicate. From 7 AM - 5 PM at Arizona State University in Tempe, at the Memorial Union's Arizona Room. The combination of technologies required to address societal grand challenges in areas such as energy, health and security, necessitates the creation of systems that have far-reaching abilities to sense, compute and communicate. Such systems vary in complexity from basic home networks to much more sophisticated remote health, security monitoring and satellite systems, and can involve fields as diverse as biochemical sensing, ad-hoc networks, low-power/high-performance computing and planetary surface science. This year's one-day workshop will focus on the "sense, compute and communicate" topic and will pull together experts from industry, academia, research labs and consortia to share their vision of technical challenges and opportunities in these areas. A poster session will be featured on the broader workshop topic of emerging device and packaging technologies and select vendors will exhibit products and services related to all aspects of the supply chain for design and manufacturing. ATIC's Tech/Telecom Policy & Strategy Committee Discussion Lists

ATIC has created two Yahoo! Groups to support active ATIC communications and engagement. You'll need a basic Yahoo! account (but not a Yahoo! e-mail address) to access the content and subscribe to it, a relatively painless process they'll lead you through if you don't already have one.

The ATIC-Policy List is for posting technology and telecommunications policy news and dialogue about related issues. To subscribe send an e-mail to atic-policy-subscribe@yahoogroups.com from your desired address. Once subscribed, to post a message send it to atic-policy@yahoogroups.com. The ATIC-Policy group can be found online at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/atic-policy/.

The ATIC-Strategy List is for the ATIC Strategy Committee's use in conducting the business of the Committee and related dialogue among participants. The Committee is Co-Chaired by Steve Peters and Ron Schott. To subscribe send any e-mail to atic-strategy-subscribe@yahoogroups.com from your desired address. Once subscribed, to post a message send it to atic-strategy@yahoogroups.com. The ATIC-Strategy group can be found online at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/atic-strategy/.

ATIC has launched a special Arizona High-Technology and Telecommunications Archive page you might find of interest. It's a great collection and set of pointers to useful announcements and documents from ATIC's activities and initiatives of the past, as well as links to myriad other sources relevant to Arizona high-technology and telecommunications economic development and policy through the years. These resources are collected in the new ATIC Archive for your reference and use, as well as establishing historical context for all the great efforts of the past.

Were you out and about attending any of the many Arizona technology events these past few years? Mark Goldstein has mounted photos from quite a few of our regional tech happenings up on Flickr for your enjoyment. The top level link to the index of photo sets is http://www.flickr.com/photos/mg-irc/sets/. Enjoy!
